Iron Picket Fence

A brief about 'Fence'
The concept of fence is as old as the concept of home itself. When the early man started building houses to settle down, the concept of fence came into picture, when it was earlier used basically to keep the animals in or out, and also to make the property (home, land, animals secure), for privacy and to delineate the size of the land.

In course of time, fence apart from serving the basic purposes, is also being used for decorative purposes and can be seen as a mark of style and sophistication of the home guarded by it.

Different types of fencing that have come up over the years can be listed as Chain Link Fence, Electric Fence, Wrought Iron Fence, Bamboo Fence, Aluminium Fence, Picket Fence, and so on.

Let's look at Picket Fence in particular.

What does Picket mean?
In the context of fences, the term picket can be used to describe a wooden strip that forms part of a fence.

Picket Fence -

So, going by the meaning of the term 'Picket', a 'Picket Fence' can be said to be a fence that is made of standing, i.e. vertical pickets.

More about Picket Fence -

Picket Fence was popularized in 1950's and from then on has become a symbol of comfort at all American homes. Building a picket fence involves digging the ground and fixing a row of fence posts and filling the sections in between with pickets. These days, pre-assembled fence panels are available making it simpler by doing away with the need to nail up one picket at a time.
