Happy Lighted Snowman



Light up the yard and the holiday season with this sturdy snowman's everlasting smile, happy snowman. Strings of the Christmas tree lights brighten his outlook, and a coffee-can top hat and a hand made scarf add a joyful personality.

Diagram:
Draw a diagram first so then it would be easy to make the lighted snowman.

Mark and measure snowman:
 Measure 12-1/2 inches from the edge on one 8-foot sideboard; lightly draw a line the entire length as per the diagram. Beginning at the 4-foot side of the board, measure along the line at 10-1/2, 29-1/2, and 42-inch intervals, and mark each point. Draw a diameter 24-inch.

Draw slot-cutting lines:
Measure and mark a point along the center line 24-inches on the board. Draw a parallel line 3/8-inch from the centerline to create a 3/4 –inch wide slot.

Measure snowman sides piece:
Measure 34 inches from the opposite 8-foot edge of the board. Measure and draw 24-inch and 18-inch diameter circles as per the snowman's shape.

Measure additional pieces from board:
Draw two 2-1/2 inches diameter eyes, three 3-1/2 inch diameter buttons, and one 10-inch diameter hat brim in an open area of board.

Cutting:
Cut out all the pieces.

Drill:
For nose-Drill a one-inch diameter, hole along the centerline of the snowman front/back, 6 inches from top of the head. 
Buttons- mark and cut a ¾-inch strip from the center of the 3-1/2-inch diameter.
For attaching hat- Drill a 1/2–inch diameter hole into the top of the snowman's head and in center of hat brim.
For inserting arms- drill 1/2 –inch hole in each side of snowman's front/back, 6 inches from neck.
For light sockets- measure and drill, 3/8-inch holes every 2 inches around perimeter of the snowman front/back and sidepieces.

Cut mouthpieces:
Cut seven disks, 3/8-inch thick and 1-inch diameter.

White nose:
Use a sharp knife to shave end of 1-inch dowel until resembles a carrot.


Assemble snowman:
Slip front/back and sidepieces together by matching slots. Cement eyes, nose, mouth, and button in the places.

Add lights:
Beginning at the bottom of the snowman front/back, insert into the drilled openings around the body. Repeat for the snowman side, passing light string through the opening ion the neck to front.

Your snowman is ready to stand in your yard, happy lighted snowman. Enjoy your Christmas this year with your handmade-lighted snowman.
