A countertop is basically a horizontal surface on which different sorts of works are performed. There are various types of materials used to build these countertops depending on the level of sturdiness and hardness as well as durability. Some materials can be used to actually design special types of countertops in various shapes and sizes along with very elegant designs. There are various materials like the Natural stones, Wood, Stainless steel, Synthetic materials, Concrete, Pre- and postformed high-pressure decorative laminates, Quartz Surfaces, Richlite, Solid-surface acrylic plastic materials, Terrazzo, Tile. The stones include hard and soft stones like Granite, Limestone, Marble, and Soapstone while Solid-surface acrylic plastic materials like the Corian, EOS, Hanex, and Wilsonart Solid Surface are used too. The Q-surfacing materials or the specially engineered materials like Hanstone, Technistone, Silestone, Caesarstone, Avanza, Cambria Quartz, Zodiaq and Pre-formed and post- formed high-pressures laminates like the Wilsonart Laminate or even Formica (plastic) are used to manufacture countertops.
Usage:
Some people prefer various classy old kinds of looks for their countertops. These types can be manufactured with the help of designing through various soft materials because it is easy to blend with other mixtures so as to form a durable mixture and material, which can also be moulded in the desired shape or design. Wood is the most commonly used material for the countertops as it is soft and can be easily used in various designs and can be molded anyhow it is desired.
General information:
Wood gives a very old kind of look and suits mostly to the countryside homes with the wooden or stonewalls. This would make it a perfect ambience for the wooden countertops to go with the interior design. Sometimes laminates are used instead of actual wood, as it is not available in plenty and expensive too. These laminates can be placed over the countertops of different materials to give the wooden finished look. Special care must be taken for the wooden laminate. Care must be taken regarding non-wetting of the surface or even humid conditions would ruin the material itself making it to wear easily and thereby look too bad to be used as a countertop.
