Buying A Carpet

Make The Right Choice!

Are you aware that buying carpet is the third most expensive purchase that the average homeowner makes? Purchasing a carpet ranks behind the purchase of a home and a new car as the most common and expensive single purchases in terms of dollars. While most purchasers consider the condition, anticipated life, anticipated repairs, the cost of maintenance, resell value etc. in the purchase of a home or new automobile carefully; the primary decision in the purchase of new carpet rests with color and whether it will match the sofa set or wallpaper. Following is how you should go about choosing a carpet -

What To See When Buying A Carpet?

Though, it is rare these days to find a poor quality carpet, one should be careful. Improvements in fibre technology and construction techniques have resulted in less expensive carpets that wear well in the right location. But one must not forget that some carpets are more hardwearing than others. Also some carpets that flatter by looking very good can be of bad quality. Some carpets are prone to flattening and soiling, also.

The length of time for which a carpet will last, depends upon a number of factors like pile fibre, weights of fibre and density of the pile. A combination of heavier weight and a higher density of pile seem to last for longer than a lighter or looser pile. If you were to combine this with a resilient and soil hiding fibre, the product will be the best that you could get.

After you have considered the strength and quality of the carpet, then you should bear in mind the location for which you are considering buying the carpet. Location is also very important as far as carpets are concerned. It will pay high dividends, if one was to purchase better quality carpets for heavy wear areas like living rooms, hallways and stairs. On the other hand, bedrooms, bathrooms and low wear areas can do with lighter weight carpets, which come at a much lower cost. Also, though all carpets come along with suggested end-use location, it is advisable to ask the opinion of a reputable carpet shop before taking a decision.
