Faux wall painting is a creative process, much more innovative than buying a ready-made wall paper from the market. A little bit of your imagination can do can do wondrous effects for your home. Faux wall painting has a very illustrated history, and can be linked back to Egyptian pharos that first used the technique. It has evolved since then and there are numerous ways in which it can be done these days. Following are some ways in which faux paint can be used creatively -
1. By sponging
2. By dragging
3. By stippling
4. By rag rolling
5. By various other texturing methods
Before all this, it is important to learn how to glaze and wash the walls before the actual faux painting begins.

Tips for the preparation of the wall

Follow these simple steps to the T for a desirable effect -
1. Glaze and wash over a solid color base
2. Select an appropriate color (latex paints are advisable) and pour into bucket with double water. Mix this well and get ready to apply.
3. If you use the same proportion of paint and water, this will also do, but will be more expensive. It all the more, gives durability to the wall.
4. Following are the things that you must keep in hand – Bucket, paint thinner, paint, rubber gloves, turpentine, cloth wipe, and brushes.
Once you are ready with the preparation, go on to actual faux wall painting.

Faux wall painting - get set and go

Once you are done with the above, move on to actual painting of the wall. Following are the steps that you should follow-
1. Paint the wall with a solid color of your choice. After this is done select a contrasting acrylic color and prepare a glaze with the acrylic paint.
2. Mark measured intervals at the top and bottom of the wall through the whole length, with chalk or pencil.
3. Put tape on all the vertically lined intervals and apply glaze on the part that is not taped. This can be applied by using rags, sponges and other materials, to give an interesting texture.
4. Carefully remove the tape once the exposed part dries. You can use patterns other strips too.
Make sure there is adequate ventilation while you are at the job, and take other necessary precautions.
