A file cabinet or filing cabinet is a part of office furniture or equipment that is generally used for temporary or permanent storage of files. Their basic purpose is t store paper containing valuable data. The two most common types of filing cabinets are the vertical ones and the lateral ones of which the vertical is mostly put into use for official purposes. In the lateral type the files are stored in sideways fashion and they are a common sight in most of the government and legal offices. They are also known by the name of side fillers in Britain.
