Tiki totems
All Tiki totem poles are made from natural Sabal palm trees (Cabbage Palms). These are found in abundance in Florida. The trunks are generally 8" - 10" in diameter. Tiki idols represent various gods, many a times in the same deity in different aspects. Tikis typically have big, wide, open mouths to scare away evil spirits. The big guy you see above, Ku was a warrior god and in this aspect is a protector. In other aspects, he could be even more ferocious. Ku here was made by the Tiki master in Hawaii and is a great piece of art which now hangs over my bed warding off bad dreams and more sinister evils.

Tiki sculpture
Tiki style may have hit its hey-day in the '70s but now its popularity is on the rise again. For an authentic Polynesian feel right in your own backyard, you can order Tiki huts and Tiki bars online and have they shipped right to your door. Tiki huts are characterized by a wood or bamboo frame and side panels, and thatched roof. Because they originated in tropical climates, Tiki huts are designed to withstand heavy rains and wind. In the heat of summer, the thatch also provides shade several degrees cooler than canvas shade. Tiki huts are used on decks, patios or poolside, and large Tiki styles work as bars, seating areas, or spa covers.

Tiki room
A Tiki bar creates a startling atmosphere that must somehow conjure up the lost spirits of ancient man, which these days end up in a party. When people see a Tiki hut bar, they just somehow shift into instant party mode, the conversation flows and the great times begin. Have you ever seen these grass huts? They're often found at resorts, in the Caribbean islands, at restaurants and occasionally, in people own back yards. They're catching on in popularity, and for good reason. They provide a great addition to any poolside venue, and create a distinctive, island type atmosphere that most people only get to experience when on vacations.
