Mattress Sets

Queen Mattress Set
We decided on a queen mattress set for our guest room. We wanted no frills or fancy features. All we wanted was a queen mattress set that would give our guests a good night's rest.

We wanted the queen mattress set to be easy to maintain. As we don't get guest everyday, we would not be using the guest room often, in such a case we wanted a no-hassle queen mattress set ; preferably one that would not require turning.

Queen mattresses are 60 by 80 inches in size. Their size might vary very slightly from brand to brand. But all good brands keep this as the standard. They could accommodate a couple and that is what we wanted. As long as the couple was not too generously proportioned, a queen mattress could provide a good cozy and snug night.

Our budget did not permit the prize of the queen mattress set to exceed $500. As most of the "silk" or "damask" ticking did not serve any practical purpose, we decided to go for a queen mattress set without these extras. They would only cost us more. We could always cover the ticking with a sheet.

There were certain areas in which we were not willing to compromise though. Our queen mattress set had to be as comfortable as possible. The coil had to be easy on the back and not poke against it. As we would not be going for an extra padding, we wanted the material used to provide the essential support.

Most of the time it was our parents who stayed the night. We therefore preferred the firm mattress set.

We did not have to hunt too much for the right mattress. We decided on Simmons(tm) Power Sleep Firm Mattress Sets. It had a 312 Bonnel Coil unit quilted with firm foams - it was just perfect. It was firm and god quality. It had a single -sided desing so we would not have to flip it. The mattress itself was 7 inches thick while the foundation was 9 inches in thickness. At $399.99, it fit very well into our budget. It also came with a 10 year warranty.

The queen mattress set was everything we wanted and more, the luxury that is provided was something that we had never planned. To us it was just an added advantage.

Bunk bed mattresses

Bunk bed mattresses are not different from the other mattresses but while selecting them certain extra precautions are essential. I have experience making purchase decisions for children's orphanage and know how there is one important criterion that that should never be ignored while ordering bunk bed mattresses- safety.

Of course we might think of guardrails in the bunk bed but safety of the mattress is sometimes overlooked. The bunk bed mattress should always be of the right size. Both bigger and smaller mattresses come with their own risks.

Small children are very vulnerable to uneven surfaces and might report aches after several days of sleeping on the wrong mattress. In a bunk bed mattress one should always look for firmness. A mattress that is uniformly firm is the only sort one should order.

The thickness of padding, coil count and wire gauge serve to differentiate a good standard bunk bed mattress from another. It must be noted that padding is more essential than coil count in the long run. One should look for a padding that doesn't sag easily and is thick enough to support. As we never have enough money to run the charity organization, I usually look for padding and not coil count.

Bunk bed mattresses for children are a little different from those of the adults. Apart from size that is obvious, I also look for those mattresses that will be attractive to the children. Often bunk beds are used as incentives to lure children to go to bed. If the bunk bed mattresses have some illustrations- like an animal or a plant or a cartoon character, they would be all the more excited to get into bed.

At our orphanage we have mattresses with different animal illustrations. The children find it very electrifying to actually tuck in with the mighty wild life! Of course, we could also use bed sheets with illustrations but as the sheets change and mattresses don't, the children feel they have a companion in the mattress.

Bunk beds are a very convenient option as they occupy lesser space and can accommodate two children in the place of one. While the adult bunk bed mattresses are only utilitarian, our children's mattresses are much more than bunk bed mattresses.

Wholesale Mattress

While there might be genuine retailers of wholesale mattresses, they are too few to be taken into account. Most of the time they are just out to make a profit at your expense. The Internet is an arena where such fraudsters abound. The wholesale mattresses available online should be taken with a pinch of salt. There is no way to find out the real cost of a mattress online.

They might say "wholesale mattresses" and "discount prices" since there is no way to verify it. When placing an order through the net verify the credentials of these people who are selling wholesale mattresses. If there is no way to verify it, don't buy from those particular retailers.

Some wholesale mattresses are costlier at certain stores and cheaper at others for a simple reason- the sellers purposefully charge the earth for their merchandise, thus showing an artificial discount at the wholesale outlets.

Another reason could be that the wholesale mattresses don't include extra-service like free home delivery that the other outlets do. If you have no use of such services, this kind of a deal must be all right for you.

Wholesale mattresses can also be poor quality mattresses. They could be cheap copies of the original high grade ones. Or they might not include the hidden features that make the other mattress good. These inferior mattresses could be easily sold at the wholesale market for a profit! Another explanation for the cheaper rate could be that these mattresses sold as wholesale mattresses are actually used mattresses.

Before making any purchase of wholesale mattress look into the credentials of the company involved. Never make a purchase decision without actually testing the mattress. Lie down on the mattress to see if it gives the comfort the retailers claim. It would always be advisable to buy mattress with a warranty.

Any deal for wholesale mattress need not be a reason for sleepless nights if a little precaution is taken. Nothing is free in this world. If they reduce price of mattress there must be a reason for it. Never make a purchase until you know  this reason.

Twin Size Mattress

Today Naomi was turning nine. There was only one gift she's asked her mom, that's me, her own bedroom. She was tired of sharing her room with her elder sis, Pat, who sent her out of the room every time a friend of hers came home. Naomi was growing up and wanted her own space.

I had sort of anticipated this as Pat too had been complaining for some time now. I had actually planned on shifting Naomi to the guest room. It was spacious and therefore had all the area required for her assorted toys, books etc. Just add a twin size mattress to it and it would be perfect.

I don't how I decided on a twin size mattress. It came to me just like that! But now that I sat down to think about it, it seemed like the perfect thing. A twin size mattress was not so large that a small girl might feel lost in it and yet it was big enough to accommodate a growing child. Pat too had a twin size mattress, maybe that was what prompted me to think of the same option for Naomi.

A standard twin size mattress would be 39" width and 75" length.  If the same were twin extra long mattress, it would be 39" width and 80" length. But I also had the option of selecting a twin size mattress specially made for children. There were some brands that had the size 38" width and 74" length for such mattresses.

The twin size mattress designed especially for children would be the apt option for me, I thought. It was specially designed to take into account the changing physique of growing kids. As the child develops, the weight from the head and upper body would be shifting to the lower body. In such a case I would need a twin size mattress that was flexible enough to have no dents and change contours according to the changes in Naomi. I had two options in such circumstances- a memory foam twin size mattress or an air twin size mattress.

Now, memory foam twin size mattresses were way too costly. Besides as Naomi was allergic to a lot of strong smells, there was a good chance that she would be allergic to the initial strong smell of memory foam mattresses too. Air mattresses had their own disadvantages but they were well within my budget and I could actually find one that was virtually free of all allergic risks.

I made my purchase of twin size mattress and redecorated the guest room. When Naomi finally saw the room I had been secretly redoing, she was ecstatic. She loved everything. From the twin size mattress with tiny floral motif to matching wall papers to the lovely toys cabinet- there was nothing that didn't make her smile. Pat was jubilant too- she at last had her own room! As for me, well, what makes a mom happier than seeing her children happy?

Air mattress

When was the first time you came across an air mattress? Chances are that you would say outdoors, say a pool or on a camping trip or even while you were out boating. Of course, air mattresses seem to have become a "must have" in RVs too.

Air mattresses are still used for the adventure trips. Their lightweight and convenience make them handy for any adventure-seeking person.  But they have outgrown their limited use now. Many Americans these days look at air mattress as a very good option for their homes. From bedroom, to children's rooms to guest rooms, you can find them replacing regular foam mattress in all places.

One of the main reasons why people prefer an air mattress is because it does not have a coil inside. All that hard poking sensation on your back could be very uncomfortable. Besides the property of air is such that it shifts according to pressure applied. Thus the spine and the rest of the body get uniform support.

The firmness of air mattress can be adjusted according to the requirement of the person using it. Many people consider this a great advantage. Some might see this as a disadvantage as they might fear that if they over inflate the air mattress, it will burst. But this fear is unfounded. No good quality air mattress will inflate beyond a point. As a safety measure, the air supply would be cut off inside the air mattress when the pressure increases. Thus air mattress is perfectly safe.

There are those who fear that the mattress will break if a large person sleeps on it. This too is a myth and not a fact. In reality, such a person would feel more comfortable in an air mattress as he would immediately feel the benefit of a coil-less mattress.

Even if you sleep with a partner and both of you require different levels of firmness for the mattress, it is not a problem. Air mattress these days can be customized on either side according to the preferences of people occupying it!

There is yet another plus that an air mattress offers- price. Air mattresses are several times cheaper than other fancy mattress. They offer the same comfort- at times even more comfort- and charge much less.

As the air mattresses come out of the outdoors, into your homes, have their days as adventure mattresses come to an end? On the contrary, they are used outdoors much more now than they ever were before. But now they also double as your regular mattress.

Foam mattress

Foam mattresses are, as must be obvious, mattresses made of foam.  The quality and softness of a foam mattress depends largely on the density of the foam.  If you are in a look out for a foam mattress, then the density of the mattress is a key factor   that deserves your attention.. Depending upon the density of the foam mattress, the cost also varies widely.

The density requirement of your foam mattress can be estimated  if you are sure of your requirements. As the density of the foam increases, it can become firmer, though some other parameters also contribute to the firmness of your mattress.  Density is often denoted in lb/ft3   .Dead  cheap mattresses are normally available with a density of  1 to 1.5 lb/ft3  .Quality foam mattresses comes in the vicinity of 3 lb/ft3

Normally the mattresses that are firm have a longer life. If you are prone to back pains, it’s better to go for rigid mattresses.   Mattresses are normally classified into rigid, very rigid, firm, very firm, medium rigid and medium firm. Cheap quality mattresses often have a soft feeling. They may last only for a few months.   Too firm foam mattresses require a custom cover for a better life and appeal.

When you shop for a specific occasion like camping, cheap mattresses are preferred. If you stick on cheap qualities, then ensure that your mattress are not bound to get compressed very often. On the other hand if your requirement  demands  frequent usage then durable mattress is  a viable option. This is especially true if you have smart kids with you.

Finish and texture of your mattresses are also vital if you are highly conscious about looks. Aesthetically designed mattresses are of great appeal and are a great treat to watch.  If your budget permits, a hundred percent combed cotton coverings and sheets are also a viable option for your foam mattress.

A sound sleep has become a rarity for most of us.   Although mattresses can also be a factor for your sleeplessness, it’s surprising that we often do not give much credit to this factor. When good sleep has become a distant dream, it would be better if you keep note of these parameters while shopping for your foam mattress.

Memory foam mattress

With the advancement of science and technology every aspect of life has seen a sea change. The all-encompassing technology has taken everything from a box of matches to astro-physics under its sway. Mattresses were not left behind. Past 30-40 years have seen such advancement in world of mattresses that our forefathers would have never deemed possible. One such path breaking innovation was the memory foam mattress.

Some accounts have it that memory mattresses were first invented for NASA expedition. It was specially designed to relieve astronauts from the g-forces that worked on their body during take-off. It seems that the memory foam mattress was never used in the actual mission by NASA. But the mattress that was never used in space soon became a rage on earth.

Memory foam mattresses revolutionalized the mattress industry. The subsequent years have seen the demand for memory foam mattress only increase. First to come into the market were the memory foam mattresses under the name Tempur-pedic. Copycats soon followed.

There is not one thing in the memory foam mattresses that makes them special. There are several. Memory foam mattresses have something called visco-elastic nature. This means that the memory foam mattresses are both viscous and elastic. Thus the mattress molds to every part of the body that comes into contact with it. It traces the contour of the body and relaxing every point in the process.

Another property of memory foam mattresses is that reduces pressure. It transfers air from one of it cells to another in accordance to the pressure felt. This means that the body on the memory foam mattress never feels any pressure!

Mattresses by convention are either firm or soft. Not so the memory foam mattress. Memory foam mattresses marry the two contrasting properties to create a near-perfect offspring. The top layer of these mattresses is soft while the second layer is harder, giving support to the back.

The memory foam mattresses keep the neck and the rest of the body in perfect alignment. This ensures reduced neck pains and body aches.

It seems unlikely that the memory foam mattresses that combine so many pluses would go out-of-market soon. But science that brought it in might one day evolve and bring in newer, better options. Till that day memory foam mattresses remain a very good bet.

Denver mattress

I had the strangest of dreams the other night. It was about Denver mattress! You must have heard of Denver mattresses, when it comes to mattresses, they are the best. I had bought one of these mattresses sometime back and ever since then I've been calling sleep time as "delight time"!

So, getting back to my dream, here is what I saw-

It was wartime. There were two battling sides. The battle was fierce. There was lot of bloodshed. Nobody had a clue as to why they were fighting each other but they fought on... Just then an angel appeared. She had Denver mattresses instead of wings! As she flapped her wings, every person on both the sides got a Denver mattress!

If this was not weird enough, hear what happens next. All the soldiers, seeing the Denver mattress drop their arms and go off to sleep on the mattress. When they waken after a night's restful sleep, they refuse to fight because they feel so magnanimous after a night on Denver mattress. With no soldiers to fight, the war ends! All because of Denver mattress.

This is a bit too far-fetched even by my wild imagination standards. And it set me thinking on the deep impact Denver mattress had on me. I have slept on a number of mattresses in my 53-year-old life but never have I relished sleep the way I do on Denver mattress. I do not think Denver mattress can actually stop wars but it is the closest I've come to peace. I wake up every morning so re-charged, so pepped up that I'm raring to go to work. I teach second graders in a school and my energy levels after a night on Denver mattress are almost on par with my wards!

I'm sure somewhere in my sub-conscious mind I have been thanking Denver mattress. This must have come through in my dream. They are superb in every way- easily available, great service, great value for money and great on my back!

On second thoughts, maybe I should call up the President, who knows what wonders Denver mattress can render to the war zones. LOL!

Mattress Sale

If it weren't for sales, where would we be? If you are like me who wits for the sales season before every major purchase, you might find my story on mattress sale interesting.

The mattress sale was happening in a well-reputed mattress store. I knew people who had been buying from this mattress store for ages now. As far as my memory would go, there had been no mattress sale in this store for ages! What was stranger still was that this mattress sale was happening for no particular reason. No Anniversary, no Christmas, not even 4th of July!

But what did it matter to me, they had a mattress sale. They were a reputed group and I needed mattress. Made perfect sense to me. So, I went to the sale, selected a memory foam mattress, placed my order, wrote a check, went home and waited. And waited. And waited.
When hours passed, I called up the company that had put on the mattress sale.  There was no reply. As it was quite late in the night, there was not much else I could do.

Waking up next day, with still no sign of my mattress, I was wondering what to do. It was then that I happened to glance at the newspaper. "Mattress sale scam- leading mattress company involved!! " I hoped against hope but knew that been duped.

This is what happened. The mattress company was running in loss. It's new owner decided that it was time he took some action. He put up the board for sale, got the money for the same mattresses time and again, then slowly, kept shifting his mattresses to a safe spot out of town.

He asked the customers who called for time stating some monor damage to the mattress as the reason for delay in delivery. He told them he would get them brand new ones- if only they knew! I had visited him on the last day of the "mattress sale". That night he left the town quietly. The mattress sale racket was the biggest thing my little town had ever know.

My "buy only at sales" policy had taken a sudden blow. But there was one consolation- I was not the only one who fell for it.

Mattress reviews

Mattress reviews are becoming a trend these days. Most of the critics usually log onto one of those review sites and post their mattress review on it. More of than not, these reviews are negative comments. If the mattresses as terrible as mentioned in these reviews, then the US must be one disgruntled nation with so many sleep-deprived people walking about!

But the truth is that only unsatisfied customers write many of the mattress reviews, if they are happy with the product they rarely type mattress reviews to praise it. For every discontented mattress review out there, there are several satisfied customer who choose not to type.

This is not to deny these allegations as false or baseless. Many of the people writing such reviews are genuinely unhappy and use the mattress review sites as an outlet to lodge their grievances. Still, there are also those cases where they start criticizing the very nature of the product for which it is famous. This can be very unjust.

Take the instance of a Tempur-Pedic mattress review that was recently published. It criticized the way the mattress traced body contours and did not immediately return to the original position. This is what the mattress is meant to do! In another case the customer criticized a waterproof mattress for its "plastic" feel. That was because it was the plastic that made it waterproof in the first place!

There have been instances when competitors pay people write negative mattress reviews about certain products. As a flip side to this there have also been many cases where the mattress companies themselves pay people to write fantastic mattress review of their product.

So, in such circumstances, who does one trust? The best thing to do would be to trust oneself. The mattress reviews should not be taken at their face value. They are a good starting point to gain more information on the mattress. Mattress reviews, if you are sure that the source is genuine and reviewed by professionals, can be a storehouse of wisdom. Even people who are not professional can be helpful as they let you look at the mattress from every perspective. But in the end, remember that no one else can make a decision for you. Take every mattress review with a pinch of salt.
